Cup of Favorites: 2016 Part I – Skincare products & Face make up

Hello Cupcakes,

I hope you’ve had a lovely and warm Christmas with your family and friends. I spent mine with my family and we had a gourmet soirée. It’s almost the end of the year and cliché as it may sound, I am amazed at how quickly the time went by. I started this blog in May, so it exists already 7 months! I noticed that my blog post on my lip favorites was the most popular post and that reading about my empties is also something that you guys like to read. So what perfect way to end the year with a Cup of Favorites and Cup of Empties.

I’ll divide this Cup of Favorites in several parts. In Part I, I’ll share my favorite skincare products and face make up with you.  In Part II, I’ll cover eyes and lips :).

Skincare products

1. Clinique Take The Day Off Cleansing Balm

This won’t come as a surprise to you. This is definitely my ALL TIME FAVORITE cleansing product. It’s soft, moisturizing, doesn’t sting the eyes and does an amazing job removing all your make up (waterproof mascara and all).

2. Tony Moly Coffee Scrub

I’ve been using this soft scrub for years. If you’re a fan of a mild moisturizing scrub, you’ll love this. The particles are quite small and doesn’t numb your facial skin, like a St. Yves does. This stuff indeed smells like coffee, but doesn’t linger on the skin. You only smell it when scrubbing. Using this in the morning is really a treat!

3. Rituals Body Butter – Magic Touch

If you’ve been reading my posts, you’ll know by now I have pretty dry skin. It used to be worse! But thanks to an intensive treatment with bath oils, my skin has gotten better. To keep it moisturized, it is important for me to use body butters. I much prefer body butters over body lotions. They are so much more rich, thick and longlasting. I usually go for Rituals, because the scent is fresh and longlasting. My favorite aroma would definitely be Magic Touch: Cherry Blossom & Rice Milk!

4. Kruidvat Originals – Skin oil Almond

You know I had serious case of dry lips. It got so bad that the dry patches surrounded my mouth. Up to a month ago my local drugstore, Kruidvat, came out with a line of natural products. When I saw this little bottle of Almond oil for 1,99 €, I thought it was worth the try. Every night before I go to bed, I rub a couple of drops on my face and my skin has gotten so much better! Definitely going to continue using this!

Face make up

1. Catrice HD Liquid Coverage Foundation

I have been enjoying this full cover foundation so much. It’s matt and stays perfect on the skin throughout the day. In combination with some aftershave balm, I swear it doesn’t budge. It’s quite liquidy, so it feels quite light weight on the skin. I put a couple of dots of this product on my face and blend it out with the beauty blender.

2. Catrice HD Liquid Camouflage
Now of course, when I got the HD foundation from Catrice, I got the concealer product in a special offer from Kruidvat. This concealer is FULL on opaque! It covers up my dark circles, the redness around my nose and it blends out perfectly. I also love the fact that’s it’s waterproof.

3. Too Faced Cosmetics Candlelight Glow Highlighter
I’ve been using several highlighters this year. But my favorite would definitely be this Too Faced one (in warm). Because you glow like a fairy but still look natural!

The one and only blush that I kept going back to this year would be this NYX ombre blush in Mauve Me. This color is just perfect and goes well with anything. It looks subtle and sophisticated and goes well with many skin tones.
I’m going to a NYX store tomorrow and I can’t wait to get my hands on another Ombre Blush!

5. NYX HD Photogenic Finishing Powder

Does any one of you have such fine lines under the eyes that any product would sink into it and make the lines even more prominent? Sadly I’ve had these fine lines since a long time. My mom doesn’t even have these fine under eye lines… Luckily, I have my trusty finishing powder from NYX that fixes my concealer without accentuating these charming lines of mine… This powder is incredible fine and sets your make up effortlessly.

I hope you enjoyed this post and I’ll talk to you in my next post!

Sarah

    Hi Sarah!
I am so glad to hear that you had a wonderful Christmas. I really enjoyed this post and really want to try your coffee scrub.
Your blog is one of my favorites! You are a great writer and do such a nice job of engaging and connecting with your audience. I am so glad that we are blog friends!
This year I have been loving taking baths with Dr. Teal’s Epsom salt and adding some essential oil to it. I found my favorite concealer by Bare Minerals. And am still on the hunt for a good facial routine.
I hope you will have a Happy New Year!

Hi Alana, you don’t know how much these kind words mean to me. I’m happy you like reading what I write. I’m glad we’ve been connecting over our posts and became friends!
Btw, that coffee scrub also exists as strawberry latte. I have it, but the scent is way too sweet for my taste. I’ve never tried Epsom salt before. I’ve seen that we have to order it online as I checked it to make Bath Bombs. I’ve never tried anything from Bare Minerals. I always get drawn by cute packaging and because of that there are many brand that I haven’t tried before, so I’m probably missing out on some great products haha!
For a good facial routine, you have to take the time to examine what your skin needs (dryness, oily, pores,…) and everything depends on whether you the layer type of person or the “All in one jar” type of person :D.
I also hope you’ll have a Happy New Year and I’ll talk to you soon! ❤ Sarah

        Hi Sarah!
I really mean it :). You are so creative and your blog is beautiful. I always look forward to reading your articles and I always appreciate your sweet and inspiring comments.
I especially like epsom salt to comfort aches and pains. Somedays my neck or joints might feel a little stiff or after a hard workout it is comforting. I have also read that it helps to draw out toxins.
I have heard mixed reviews about Bare Minerals. We have several shops where I live and I got a makeover once. I purchased a compact with eyeshadow and at first I worried that it was a mistake because some of the colors are really strong, but it has grown on me. I do love the concealer though.
Thanks for the tips on a good facial routine. I used to work at a swimming pool for years and before that I was a swimmer so I think that I never really understood my skin since it was zapped of moisture. Now here’s my chance :).
Take care and enjoy these final days of 2016!!!!
        ❤ Alana

Thank you for your encouragements, Alana! I feel inspired to share other fun things on this blog, even if it would be only for you :D. Please do share your skin care routine, when you’ve found it. Maybe I should do a post on that too someday! ❤ Sarah

I really enjoy your photos and your writing style. You are very relate able and I enjoy visiting with you.
I am going to start paying more attention to my skin and will definitely share once I have it more figured out :). That would be a fun post for you to do too.
Enjoy the rest of your day and we will talk soon!

It’s really very gentle. The focus is not only on the scrubbing properties, but also on the moisturizing properties. There is also another version available that is the Strawberry latte scrub. I have it, but I’m not too crazy about the sweet Strawberry candy scent…

Christmas is indeed my fav period of the year and lasts until New Year. I especially love preparing gifts for friends and family! I usually buy them something and make a diy. I’ll share my gifts after I’ve given everything. Otherwise they might read. They’ll receive it on New Years Eve. Xoxo Sarah

New Years is so much fun. I've been writing out my 2017 goals. I will share them on my blog soon. I'm excited for 2017 x x

Woah! Those NYX blushes, I love NYX products but haven’t tried their blushes yet! I think I love the strictly chic tone, I’m now on the prowl for it! The Rituals Body Butter sounds like a dream I’m with you- dry skin galore over here more now than ever with the cold. Where can I find that product?

I buy my Rituals products in a specific Rituals store. I think it is available all over the world. You’ll find a list of the stores on this website: https://eu.rituals.com/nl-be/stores
The consistency is pretty similar to a Victoria’s Secret body butter, but I think it is even a tad bit more moisturizing. And the scents are less sweet. I was planning to get me some more Ombre Blushes from Nyx, but at then end of the day, we didn’t go 😦 (we only have 3 stores in Belgium and they all opened this year), so it’s a bit far away from here… xoxo Sarah
