Hello Buttercups!
I don’t know how to start this recap, because there is so much going on in my life right now… I can’t really tell you about everything as it’s very personal and it includes other people. But there are definitely many positive things to share. And I know, I know, I butchered my posting streak. But in my defense, I didn’t feel like posting crappy content, so I figured, let’s just take a break.
For the sake of keeping everything a bit organized, I’ll just go through my usual list and get it going from there…
Resolutions
- Sport: I’ve changed this section from Weight Loss to Sport. I’ve been going through some stress lately and I’ve rapidly lost 2-3kg in a matter of days. I just figured it wasn’t healthy and so my main focus shouldn’t be on losing weight. My workout sessions are a bit out of wack. I’ve been missing belly dance classes to do my own choreo’s, which is quite intense. I haven’t gone to the fitness these past weeks, but I’ve found something more fun to do, to be honest… I’ve started doing Brazilian Jiu Jitsu (BJJ), because my friend took me there. I didn’t know what to expect, but it was so much fun :p. The hour went by like nothing and my abs hurt like hell :p. Killer workout! And I actually love it! I ended up getting A LOT of bruises. It looks like I was beaten the crap out of. But I strangely don’t mind. It’s like proof I’m undergoing some change, I guess…

- Creations: I’ve compiled the belly dance choreo section with the creative moments. Because they’re basically the same for me… When I work on choreo’s I don’t feel like creating anything else anyway. So the month May was all about choreo’s. So far, I finished the duo with my belly dance partner! It’s such a blessing to work together with someone who has the same rhythm and views as I do. Because when we work together to make a choreo, it just comes like nothing. She did the first veil part and I’m quite good at the use of space part. Together we figured out a beautiful choreo. Can’t wait for you to see it. For my solo, I’m halfway through and still need to work on 1.2 minutes of music. Being into the creation mood feels great. Especially when you see it unfold on a video. You can check out my dance practice here.
- Post 2x/week on the blog: Yup… I missed several posting moments. I had some emotional and life changing issues to deal with. And it’s still ongoing. But I do have to say, I missed writing a lot… Usually when I’m going through some emotional stuff, I don’t feel like writing about beauty that much… I’m sure you’ll understand. But I’m slowly getting back into it ;).
- Learn Chinese: I haven’t learned Chinese lately. My planning is completely out of wack and at the moment I prefer spending my time writing, dancing and doing other sports. I think I’m going to keep this resolution though. I’ve always said I wanted to add a couple of other languages to my knowledge ;). So I’m not giving up on this one! Aside from Chinese, I’d definitely like to add Korean and Spanish…
- Finance: Okay, so I may have been living on a little cloud. But the reality is just that I suck at this. I’ve had my butt kicked big time by my BJJ friend. But I guess I deserved it… I may open up about this someday if it could help someone. But to be honest, I’m in no position to give advice at the moment…
- New Learnings: I am a still doing Lifebook and Kwik Learning but running a bit behind. According to someone :), BJJ should also be counted as a self development crash course. Don’t know what it’ll bring, but it’s fun :p. So I’m curious to what it’ll do for me. I am currently also reading Vishen Lakhiani’s Codex. He talks about changing the rules in your mind that are holding you back, to make way for rules that actually help you strive and soar higher… I feel like it’s already making a change for me.
Unforgettable Moments
- My Zumba Instructor Workshop: Well of course, I must mention this (even though I already wrote a whole post on it)! It was such an inspiring weekend! It was an amazing experience to be instructed by Jaromir Cremers. I haven’t joined the ZIN (Zumbo Instructor Network) yet. I’m counting on doing that in July, then I can start making my first course.

- Weekend in Maastricht: I went on a weekend trip with my friends! We had a blast! And it really was unforgettable. Maastricht is a beautiful city to enjoy the view (bridges, churches, parks,…) and some shopping. We had some really nice food for very affordable prices. If you’re hesitating to take a short trip, I definitely recommend this charming little town. We stayed at the Reikko hotel, which was so nice. We had such a warm welcome.

- I had a car accident: Seriously not the most fun moment. But I was driving from work like I usually did and a lady was getting out of a garage with some speed. She was standing still as I was driving by, so I really thought she had seen me. So her car got mine pretty good in the side… But I was fine, she was fine, the insurance will pay for it all. So no need to make a fuss out of it. She ended up being a very nice lady actually. And she was telling me how, she has a side hustle selling Herbalife shakes. I really admired her. She’s about to retire and was already thinking about her next project to do, as she didn’t feel like sitting home! You go, Yolande! You sometimes meet interesting people on the strangest places and moments…

- I entered BJJ class: Sooo, I had never heard of this form of martial arts before. In the past my dad made me follow Vovinam for 8 years of my life or so, until I was 15, not that I was any good at it. So I did have some sort of martial arts background. Going into BJJ class, I didn’t know what to expect at all. But it looks a lot like wrestling. You don’t really battle by hitting someone with impact, it’s more like you’re trying to tie them in a knot, trying to keep out of their knots. It’s much more slow and deliberate, but lethal nonetheless. We did some warming up exercises and some move practice. But then there was the sparring part. I’m not one to get into fights, ever. But this was so much fun. You’re ultra focused on your opponent, trying to anticipate their moves. Aaaand the best part :p, I ended up feeling my abs the entire weekend, without feeling like I had to make any effort for it. Those 90min class feel like 30min to me. Even when I do belly dancing, I hate doing belly workouts with a passion. It’s so boring and painful haha :p.
In a nutshell, May was an emotional roller coaster… Opening up to new experiences, change and possibilities. I don’t know what the future will bring, but I have confidence in the choices I’ve made. Even though it feels scary, it’s better than feeling stuck. You may regret what you did in life, but it’s worse to regret what you haven’t done…
Anyways beautifuls! I hope you have a lovely weekend! Please share below how your month of May was! I’ll talk to you in my next post!
Love,
Sarah
Aw hope everything is getting worked out with all the personal things going on, sending you huge hugs, Sarah! ❤
Oh my goodness- those bruises are really intense- how exactly did you get them during the workout? Is it mainly from the defensive positions?
The weekend in Maastricht looked like so much fun! 🙂
OH my gosh! I’m so sorry about the car accident 😦 SO glad you are ok! Sounds like the best case scenario in terms of the lady who was involved though!
I love your quote at the end, “You may regret what you did in life, but it’s worse to regret what you haven’t done”. Thanks for the update!

Hi Sarah!
It looks like you went through a lot in the month of May! I am sorry about your car accident and am glad that you are okay. I like how you reframed some of your monthly goals like realizing that you do not need to make weight-loss a focus. It is amazing that you are learning Brazilian Jiu Jitsu. It looks rough, but I bet it is empowering to learn how to defend yourself and grow stronger!
Your really have such a great attitude and outlook towards changes. It is hard to go through emotional roller-coasters, but you are strong and are getting through it all. You will look back on this time in your life and be so glad that you continued to move forward and open yourself up to new challenges and possibilities. Thank you for being an ongoing inspiration, Sarah!
I hope June will be even better for you!
❤ Alana
