Cup of Reviews: Skinfood Rice Mask Wash Off

Hello Beautifuls!!!

I hope you’ve had a flying start for 2018! I have to say, I’m quite tired from the holidays haha! It must be cause I’m getting old… haha no, just kidding! But with all the dinners, the going outs, the family gatherings,… I haven’t really slept much and all the stress that also came with the packages, it totally drained me. I’m satisfied, but drained… However, at the same time I’m really pumped and excited and full of plans for 2018. It might be contradictory but it’s the truth: I’m tired and pumped at the same time.

I got some really amazing gifts that I’ll share with you in my next posts. Some of the gifts were self gifted also haha. I got a cute little kit on Sephora.fr from Skinfood. This is my very first time trying out this brand, just because I’ve always thought it was a bit on the expensive side. Back when I was getting into Korean make up, I was more drawn to the super cute packages from Etude House and Tony Moly. But Skinfood is cute in its own way and just a little bit more simple. As the name says it, it’s food for the skin so the products come in bottles that look like they’d look nice in your kitchen :p.

The Packaging

Sturdy “organic” looking jar. It actually looks like a food container, with quite a clean and simple label, which is quite typical for this brand. This is not the full sized product. And as it came with the kit (21.95€/kit with the 3 jars). So you pay approximately 7.32€/jar of 50g, which is a reasonable price. Surprisingly, it’s not much more expensive than the full size when you calculate per weight. For 100g, you pay 14.50€…

The Product & it’s claims

It’s a mask with nutritious rice extract for soft skin texture (as it has exfoliating properties) and brightening effect. You are supposed to massage it onto your cleansed skin and rinse it off. So in my humble opinion, this should be called a scrub and not a mask…

The Scent

It has a soft and pleasant clean (slightly laundry) scent.

How did it perform?

I spread a decent amount on my face and let it set for several minutes, even though that wasn’t really required. I just thought, hey it’s a mask, it should at least sit on my skin for some time :p.

Yes, yes… I’ll give you a minute! Laugh as much as you like. But let’s be real though. Who wears sexy lingerie while doing their face mask? Not me, anyways…

The texture is slightly gritty with big chunks of soft (like cooked) rice. I guess you could compare it with some rice pudding made with milk…

When I rinsed it off, I did feel the exfoliating effect while massaging, but it was quite gentle, which I really liked. After that I dried my face, my skin felt incredibly soft and not dry. Though I do feel the need to put on a cream afterwards.

My Conclusion

This is my first Skinfood experience ever and… it was a very good one. I’m pleasantly surprised and can’t wait to try out the other two products that I got in the same kit. I’ll definitely check out this brand next time I go to Asia. This little kit certainly was a great way to get to know this brand a bit better! If it’s still available, make sure to check out this little set on the Sephora website!

Have you tried Skinfood before? Are there any products you’d recommend or like me to try out? Please share!

Have a wonderful week friends!

Love,

Sarah

    Hi Sarah!
I love Skinfood and am happy to see that you reviewed a product that I have been curious about and haven’t tried yet. I have the skin food black sugar mask which comes in the same jar and smells just like strawberry jam. It feels like you are slathering strawberry jam onto your face which is kind of fun. It is exfoliating yet gentle and I feel refreshed after using it. I am obsessed with the skin food dark circle concealer which I got from amazon. Just a heads up though, I never wear foundation (at least not yet) and I don’t know a lot about makeup, but this product does the trick for me.

Hi Alana, glad you like it!!! 😀 As much as I love Korean products, I haven’t tried much from Skinfood yet. I’ve heard great things about them though. So I was really excited when Sephora came out with this mini trio. It’s funny how the black sugar mask smells like strawberry jam to you. Because to me it definitely smells differently haha. It’s great when you find a product you’re obsessed about. And honestly, if you don’t feel like you need, there’s no rule that says you have to wear foundation. Many people don’t wear it and they look just fine. I find that if you’re wearing a lot of make up all the time, people get used to it. So when you wear a bit less, everyone thinks you’re tired or sick haha :p. So the other way around is definitely better!! xoxo Sarah
